“For I the LORD do not change.” Malachi 3:6a

We are less than a week away from an election that has many people fearful.

The second wave of Covid cases appears to be as bad as forecasted.

Another hurricane is hitting our southern coast today.

I have this theory that our fascination with weather forecasts is driven by our desire to feel like we know what is going to happen in the future. If we know the future, we feel as if we are in control of it. There is certainly wisdom in being prepared, but I think that it goes deeper than that. We want to know what is going to happen and that we will be okay.

Is the election a concern? Certainly. Is Covid upending much of life as we know it? Sure is. Do we know how this is going to play out? No. Local schools are opening back up, even as the number of infections is higher now than when they shut down. That is not a criticism, just an observation of how strange this time is.

Most of us feel the weight of uncertainty, some literally. Many people have gained weight. Alcohol sales are up 25%. Drug use is up. Shopping is way up. The uncertainty is revealing what we put our hope in. What about you?

He’s worth your hope!
