About Us

Cornerstone Baptist Church was formed in 1983 with the merging of the Beulah Baptist and Gratiot Avenue Baptist Churches.

Our senior pastor, Bob Johnson II, began in 1989.  Because of the growth of the church, the church relocated seven years later from one location in Roseville to the present one on 12 Mile Road.

In 2002, the church began to build the current building, and it was completed two years later.

Bob Johnson

Senior Pastor

"I believe that our greatest need is to know Christ. I also believe that Christ is made known all through the Bible. Therefore, I absolutely love to preach about the glories of Christ and the Gospel which God has set on display in the Scriptures and point people to find their complete satisfaction in Him."

Born in Canton, Ohio in 1960, Bob is a life-long Buckeyes fan, for which he deservedly endures immeasurable abuse.  He is married to the love of his life, Cathi (a Detroit girl), and they have three children, Bobby (married to Taylor), Rebecca (married to Stephen Magee), and Arianna.

Bob has been serving as the Senior Pastor of Cornerstone since 1989.  He has a Masters of Divinity degree from the Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary (1997).

Scott Derouin

Associate Pastor

Scott surrendered to Christ as his only hope of salvation at the age of 20. He has been married to Susie since 1996 and they have four children: Caleb, Noah, Benjamin, and Toby. They have been at Cornerstone since 2017.

Scott has a Bachelors in Business Studies and an MDiv from Liberty University. Before coming to Cornerstone, Scott served in lay ministry for 15 years and as an associate pastor for 5+ years.

Scott’s passion is to see young adults living independently by faith in Jesus Christ, both in and out of the church.

I Thessalonians 2:8 - Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.

Dave Dunham

Associate Pastor

Discipleship & Counseling

As Associate Pastor of Discipleship and Counseling, Dave serves to equip our congregation to fulfill the "one-another" commands of Scripture through administering Cornerstone's Small Group Ministry and through counseling. He has been at Cornerstone since the spring of 2013, having previously served in a variety of roles and a variety of churches.  Dave has helped to plant churches, served as a church consultant, and taught at both a state university and an interdenominational seminary.  He has a BA in English and Pre-Theology from Ohio University and an MDiv from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dave and Krista have been married since 2004, and have three children, Maleigha, Zane, and Zosia.

Denise Hardy

Director of Women's Ministries

Denise Hardy began her ministry at Cornerstone in 1989, serving as the Children’s Ministry Director.  In 2001, she changed ministry direction to become the Director of Women’s Ministries.

In 2003, Denise became certified through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. In her leadership of the Women’s Ministry, she not only counsels women, but she also trains women to biblically disciple other women.

The passion of Denise’s heart is to see that women understand the Gospel, believe in Christ, and understand their identity in Christ. Whether it is a social event or a Bible study, the goal of Women’s Ministry is to encourage, teach, and train women to live biblically.

Johnny has a BS in Theology with an emphasis in Student Ministries from Baptist Bible College and is completing his MDiv from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Johnny and his wife, Robyn, have been married since 2004, and enjoy their five children.

Charity Akampurira

Women's Ministry Intern

Born and raised in Uganda, Charity came from a big family of 10 siblings. She has been in the USA back and forth a few times, the longest being the last 2 and half years as she pursued education at Westminster seminary in California. She graduated May 2020 with a MA in Biblical studies.

The Lord saved her close to 10 years ago after a gradual process of graciously showing her her sinfulness and need for a savior. She has a desire to learn and grow as a servant of Christ, as Biblical counselor in a local church and beyond, for the glory of God and His gospel. Her prayer is that God would teach her to love Him and to love as He loves. (Mathew 22:36-40)
