You know the accusation too well: Christians are anti-science. The truth is, Christians are anti-pseudo-science. We are against that which masquerades itself as science. When subjective (and absurd) sociology trumps biology, pseudo-science wins and we all lose.
For example, are men and women equal? Yes. Are they the same? No. Men and women are equal in personhood because both men and women are made in the image of God. Are they the same? No, because God made the human race as male and female. For thousands of years, that has been understood by billions of people. The difference between men and women is not only obvious to observation, it is undeniably obvious from our DNA. I say undeniably obvious, because that is theological (“So God created man in his image, in the image of God he created him; MALE and FEMALE he created them.” Genesis 1:27), biological and historically sociological. But, all of that “logical” is apparently illogical to bill H.R. 5 being considered in Congress. Called the Equality Act, this law would make it illegal to distinguish “identity” from biology. In other words, what you identify as determines how you are treated, rather than what you are. And that would be the law! As the Tigers’ announcer Jim Price says, “You can’t make this stuff up!”
Does that mean I can identify as a native-American and get amazing college scholarships for all of my grandkids? Can I identify as a 24-year old, 6’3”, 225-lb piece of titanium who can run like lighting and fulfill my dream of playing in the NFL? Can I identify as being legally blind and get a break on my taxes? Can I identify as a song-writing tenor who can play guitar, wears ripped skinny jeans with cool glasses (instead of a bass who plays trombone and wears a suit) and release some awesome worship songs? That’s ridiculous. Of course, it is! But, pass this bill and what stops a man who has been found guilty of rape and sent to a federal prison from identifying as a woman and forcing the system to assign him to a women’s prison? What stops two guys from identifying as girls and beating them in 15 girls' state championship events in Connecticut, and thereby taking competition opportunities and scholarships from the girls? Oh yea, that already happened (2019). The Alaska Equal Rights Commission opened an investigation into a women’s shelter after the shelter turned away a biological male. Would Cornerstone be allowed to insist that men cannot sleep in the same room as the women when we host MCREST?
One of my daughters played competitive sports in college. In fact, she was captain of the girls’ rugby team and took them to nationals, twice. I am very grateful for the opportunities that girls have to compete in a number of sports. Girls have fought hard for these chances in the name of equality. Now in the name of “equality” it is all at risk. Men’s events and women’s events in the Olympics? Will someone insist that only women can compete in the women’s events or will that too be considered socially offensive? Get rid of God as the Creator, and you can make up anything. Apparently, if you say it enough times, some people will believe it, even though it defies all logic and science. As Thomas Sowell said, “The problem isn’t that Johnny can’t read. The problem isn’t even that Johnny can’t think. The problem is that Johnny doesn’t know what thinking is; he confuses it with feeling.”
“Claiming to be wise, they became fools.” Romans 1:22
