Austin Segar and his wife Taylor are going to be leaving our membership in the near future in order to plant the Greater Glory Church in Macomb Twp. What do you need for a church plant? Since a New Testament church is comprised of people who have professed faith in Christ and have been baptized by immersion upon their profession of faith (Acts 2.41), you need people.

When Paul and Barnabas planted churches on their first church-planting tour, they appointed elders in those churches (Acts 14.23). So, you need elders. Paul explained to Timothy in 1 Timothy 3 how the offices of Elders and Deacons are gifts to the church, so you need some deacons as well.

In short, a church plant needs believers and some of those believers need to be qualified leaders so the church can be organized in order to preach the gospel, disciple one another, build one another up for love and good works, reach others with the gospel, and support other church planting efforts in the area and around the world.

Austin is hoping that the gathering of people who will be the founding members of Greater Glory Church can begin meeting weekly this September. He has procured a place for this weekly gathering to happen in. And there have been two grants that Greater Glory has been given in order to help them with their initial expenses.

Cornerstone is helping to birth this daughter church, but Greater Glory Church will be independent of Cornerstone. This new congregation will be self-governing but will seek to be very connected to us and other faithful gospel churches in the area. Greater Glory will have our DNA, meaning it will be committed to sound doctrine, expositional preaching, biblical church structure, meaningful membership, evangelism, discipleship, and missions.

The next interest meeting for Greater Glory Church is Sunday evening, June 28. Please click here to RSVP. If you are interested in learning more either for yourself or for someone else, this is a great opportunity to get more information and learn about the next steps in this process. If you know people in the northern Macomb area who have been looking for a sound, biblical church, please give them this information. And, if you made it to the end of this little note, would you stop right now and pray for this church to be born in a healthy and timely way.

Grace and peace,

Bob
