This past Sunday was Vacation Bible School (VBS) decoration day. That may not sound like a big deal but only if you have never been part of it. Word has it that there is a bill being sponsored in Congress right now to designate Cornerstone Baptist Church VBS Decoration Day as a Federal Holiday. The decorating that goes into creating so many great spaces for the kids is one obvious part of a big week for our (and many other) kids.

Another obvious part is the amount of support from an army of volunteers. So many of them were at one time the kids who now remember what a great week this was for them in the summer. It makes for a long week, but so many simply will not miss it because of how meaningful it is.

Many of you donated supplies for this week, many of you have helped behind the scenes, and, some more outgoing ones, on the stages. Thank-you. I love to stand in the main corridor and see the kids excited to be here, excited to learn, excited to give their offerings, making new friends and memories. But the real joy in all of this is knowing that these kids are learning about Christ from people who love Christ and love these kids.

In the past couple of days I’ve been emailing a pastor friend of mine from northern India whose church has been targeted by local authorities for some intense harassment. One American missionary and his family were forced to leave India and return to the states over it. We recently listened to a Ukrainian pastor talk about spending every night with his wife and daughter in the basement of their apartment complex due to the ongoing threat of missile attacks from Russia. These brothers can only hope for a day when their churches can be free and safe to minister in ways that we are privileged to at this time.

Our Roseville police have been coming by every morning this week to ensure that we are safe, not to harass us, to show their support, not to intimidate. What a difference from what many brothers and sisters in Christ go through.

God, thank-you for the privilege of being able to share the gospel of Christ with so many children this week. Please use this to bring them to know you and be part of your forever family. Help us to be grateful for these windows of opportunities we have and work while it is still day. Thank-you for the trust that so many parents put into the capable hands of our VBS helpers. For those parents outside of our church who are grateful for the safe and happy experience their kids are having, help them to see that there is a much deeper message for them. Help us in this ministry and in every part of our lives to point people to Christ. You have made us for yourself and no one will ever rest until they find their saving rest in you.

Thank-you, VBS team!

Grace and peace,

Bob
