For his pleasure and glory, God has determined to showcase some of his power on the third day.
“On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar.” Genesis 22:4
“and be ready for the third day.” Exodus 19:11a
“After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him.” Hosea 6:2
“And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.” Jonah 1:17b
“For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Matthew 12:40
“Jesus said to them, ‘The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.’” Matthew 17:22-23
“And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he said this plainly.” Mark 8:31-32a
“And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.” Mark 10:34
“The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and on the third day be raised.” Luke 9:22
“And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.” Luke 18:33
“Jesus answered them, ‘Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up’” John 2:19
It’s not like we didn’t have any warning.
“He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” Luke 24:6-7
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
What a promise! What a hope!
“When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.” John 2:22
“And they remembered his words.” Luke 24:8a
This is our week to remember. This is our week to commemorate. This is the time to believe! This is our Sunday to rejoice!
Grace and Joy!
