One week from today we kick off our summer Wednesday program with our first Summer Fun Night. What follows is a mailbag with some Q&A you may be interested in:
What is Summer Fun Night?
Summer Fun Night (SFN) is an opportunity for people from Cornerstone to be together, eat, talk, invite friends and enjoy each other’s company. There are no formal classes, nurseries, lessons, or the offering box. Instead, we gather intergenerationally to allow us time with each other for the purpose of encouragement and building each other up
(I Thessalonians 5:11).
How does SFN work?
SFN runs officially from 6:30-8:15. Shortly after 6:30 we will pray and the food line will be open. A little while later we will make an announcement for our theme/activity for the night. You do not have to participate in the activity but the more that do the more intergenerational we get! After that it’s yard games or more time to talk before we clean up at 8:15.
How do we RSVP?
Each SFN will have a NEEDS list on Cornerstone Connection. All families that come are asked to provide a food item or service item (set-up, tear-down, trash, food help, etc.). If you have a bigger family, take more than one. Taking something off the NEEDS list serves as your RSVP. Find the NEEDS list here.
Speaking of themes, what are they this year?
June 14 – Cornhole tournament. You can sign-up with a partner that night. We anticipate having room for the first 32 teams.
June 28 – Hymn sing. Dave Craft will be leading us from the piano.
July 12 – Carnival put on by the college class.
July 26 – Women’s softball game – one of my favorite nights of the year as I get to live out my radio play-by-play dreams!
August 9 – Scavenger hunt
Where do we park and check in?
You can park in the back off of Eastland, or come in the front entrance. Part of the parking lot will be blocked off, so please stay out of that area. Once you park, head to the check-in table and get a nametag.
I’m bringing food. What should I do when I get there?
Look for Jessica Gehrke at the food table to drop off food items. Remember to bring your own serving utensil and label it beforehand! Also, don’t forget to bring items home that night. The office staff does not need seven bundt cakes for breakfast the next day!
What else should I bring?
Bring your food item(s) of course, and chairs to sit in. We gather on the west side of the building near the college classroom. Feel free to bring a frisbee or other outdoor activities too.
Why can’t I bring my dog?
Some people like dogs, others don’t and some are even afraid of dogs. A loose dog at a SFN could result in a situation that we want to avoid. It seems wisest to just ask that we don’t bring dogs. Thank you for your understanding.
What do I do if I have a question on the night of SFN?
Thanks to Susie Derouin, the SFN team will be wearing tie-dyed shirts. Find one of them and they will point you in the right direction.
