In Psalm 78:1-8, the Psalmist reminds God’s people of the importance of telling children about the “glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.” (v. 4) God’s people are to do this so that future generations “set their hope in God” (v. 7). It is clear from Scripture that God has given parents the primary responsibility for their children’s spiritual instruction. However, that responsibility does not belong to parents exclusively. Psalm 78 was not written only to parents. It was written to God’s people as a whole. The concern for reminding future generations of the “Glorious deeds of the LORD” is a concern every follower of Christ should have. How that concern works itself out may look different for every follower of Christ. For some, a concern for future generations may mean faithfully praying for families and children in our congregation. For others, a concern for future generations, may mean looking for specific ways to encourage and serve parents. For all of us, striving to model things like virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love are ways that we put God’s work in our lives on display for future generations.
At Cornerstone, we also are blessed to have organized ministries geared specifically to children. We have Children’s Ministry each Sunday and Wednesday. We also have activities and special events on occasion. One of those annual events is Vacation Bible School (VBS). VBS provides a wonderful opportunity to share the Gospel and to disciple children. Serving in VBS does not require any special skills. Our Preschool Director (Mary Willson) often says that all one needs to serve in Children’s Ministry is a willing heart and helpful hands. VBS is one of those ministries that requires many willing hearts and many helpful hands. This summer VBS is planned for July 12th – 16th from 9am-Noon. If you are interested in serving in Vacation Bible School, you can click on this LINK to volunteer. If you have questions about serving in VBS please don’t hesitate to reach out to me (chad@cbcroseville.org) or our VBS directors Sarah and Julie (cbcrosevillevbs@gmail.com).
