Like half the city of Detroit, Cathi and I toured the restored Michigan Central Train Station this past weekend. My brother-in-law worked on the upper floors, so we’ve been hearing about the progress for several years and were anxious to see it. I thought it would be great, but I was blown away. The stories of the demise, ruins, and efforts to restore, plus the people involved was thrilling. Standing in the grand entrance I thought, if I am this amazed at the restoration of a building, what will it be like to witness the restoration of this earth?
Like the train station, the original design and creation of the world was spectacular, but as Romans 8:20 says, “For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly….” This creation “will be set free from its bondage to corruption.” (v.21) The restoration of the massive station required finding and using blueprints and trying to figure out what happened and how to fix it. In the case of this world, the original Creator still has the blueprints and His Re-creation skills are out of this world. The creation itself is eagerly waiting to show off the glory God! No matter what you think it will be like, you and I cannot think that great nor dream that big. We will be amazed.
On that day, every belief in God’s promises, every step of faithfulness, every act of love, every mercy, every grace, every effort to display the glory of God will be SO worth it. Beloved, live this day in view of that day. This day won’t last forever, but that day will never end.
