In a relatively brief amount of time, Alexander the Great conquered much of the known world. History does not debate the evidence of Alexander’s life due to the historical records, paintings, and of course, the military, political and cultural impact of his conquests. The two historical records considered to be the most reliable sources available to us were not written for more than 400 years after his death.
Over 300 years after the life of Alexander, Christ was born. It is virtually impossible for legitimate historians to debate the reality of his life due to the vast number of historical records, the troves of paintings and of course, the religious and cultural impact of Christianity. The four most important historical records (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) were written within 35 to 65 years of his crucifixion. Two of these accounts were written by eyewitnesses. All four are adamant with the fact: Jesus Christ rose again.
The rest of the NT adds to the pile of evidence as well as the writings of the early church fathers. If there was anything that the Sanhedrin wanted to disprove, it was the resurrection of Christ. Saul was their champion in this quest, until Christ appeared to him and hijacked his life. It’s pretty difficult to disbelieve in Christ when he talks to you. From that point on, the Sanhedrin turned on Saul and tried to kill him.
We are not naïve and ill-informed to believe in the resurrection of Christ. We stand on evidence that demands assent. Jesus Christ lived, died and rose again. The One who was, and is and is to come promised to return. We believe that too and long for his appearing. Until then we live with the anchor of our hope set secure to the rock of Christ. He is risen! He is risen, indeed!
Joy!
