I’m not sure that anybody likes to be on the receiving end of sympathy, but if you live in this world for any length of time, you will find yourself in a situation where you could really use some care. This has been the case for Cathi and me in the past couple of weeks with the death of her father. Almost like an car accident, you aren’t aware of the toll the event takes on you until a few days (or longer) down the road. My tendency is to soldier on and there are times when one has to do that. But, if you don’t have to, and if you are surrounded by people who want to step up and step in to help, then it is so good, so helpful, and so wise to let them.

Last week, someone pulled me aside and said, “you have a good staff, let us help.” He was right, so this week, I took him up on that counsel. That means that this Sunday, Johnny will be preaching instead of me. I will happily be sitting in my usual spot on the front row with the cup of my heart in hand, prepared to be fed and filled. But, as many of you can attest, this church family is way more than her staff.

In the past few days, we have been on the receiving end of countless prayers, hugs, encouragements, cards, food and calls. We have been lifted up, strengthened, and comforted. Cornerstone, thank-you for being so generous with your love and time. To all of you who have cared for Cathi and me and our family, we will not forget your faithfulness to us.

Grace and peace,

Bob
