Why Should You Attend the GSI Missions Conference?

Our weekend with Global Serve International (May 30 - June 1) is just over three weeks away. So is warmer weather and the numerous opportunities that we have been waiting for after a winter that has seemed endless. Having a conference at such a pivotal point on the calendar might feel like a “big ask.”

Some might be wondering, “Aren’t we already engaged in missions? Just consider the size of our missions' budget. Or look at the number of missionaries we support. Aren’t we doing enough?”

For sure, our church has grown both in its financial commitment and in looking to be biblically intentional about how we do missions. God has connected us with outstanding partners who have introduced us to highly qualified missionaries that are effective in evangelizing, discipling, and gathering believers into healthy churches. Amen! But there is still more that we can do.

Think of being at a sporting event supporting your favorite team. If you are encouraged by what you see from a distance, imagine what it can be like when you move even closer to the action (if you can afford the cost of the ticket!) Like moving from the “nosebleed” section to a court side seat! You can see more, cheer better, and maybe even “high five” one of the players. But if you have had a role in one of those players’ lives, well now you are really “all in” to the game. That will not happen to most of us in professional sports, but it can when we send a missionary from our congregation.

In the meantime, come to the GSI weekend and get closer to the action. Prepare to be moved by powerful stories and gain insight into God’s mission in the world and your role in it. A “court side” seat with pizza will not cost you a day’s wages. Just $5. But what you hear might take your game to a new level. Maybe to the ends of the earth.

See you on Friday night, May 30th.
