Tonight is our first Summer Fun Night (SFN) of 2025. What is SFN? How can you be involved? What would it look like to waste your SFN? Let’s attack those and more in mailbag form!
Q: What is Summer Fun Night?
A: About eight years ago, we decided to create multiple one-night summer events that will allow us time together without a formal program. Each Summer Fun Night activity is independent of the others, but they each provide time together to talk, eat, and more (if desired).
Q: What is the purpose of Summer Fun Night?
A: In Ephesians 4, Paul says we should be “…eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” And so the purpose of Summer Fun Night is to encourage unity of the church by creating opportunities to build friendships, connect intergenerationally, and enjoy the company of one another in an informal atmosphere.
Q: What are the themes this year?
A: We have four nights planned. Tonight’s is a Corn Hole Tournament. Playing is optional. We are planning to have room for 64 players and will be registering them tonight upon arrival. Click the link to volunteer to bring a corn hole board. Our next SFN will be July 9, where we are organizing a kid’s carnival. We will follow that up with a silent auction (think garage sale/white elephant with tickets) on July 30, and then round out the season on August 20 with our women’s softball game. Ladies 18+, contact Kelsey Latta or Shelby Deman if you want to play. Also that night, Roseville Chick-Fil-A will be donating sandwiches for the first 250 people. Thank you, CFA!
Q: How does the food work? How do I RSVP?
A: A couple years ago we decided to step up our food game by adding church-provided hot dogs and asking you to bring food items that take a little more effort, like salads and dips and fruit and veggies and mac-n-cheese! When you sign up to either bring food or help with the event, that is your RSVP. If you haven’t signed up, it’s not too late. Click the link here.
Q: How does CBC know how many to plan for?
A: We really depend on you to RSVP by signing up to bring a food item or offering to serve in some way. So please RSVP. Help us, help you!
Q: What if there is bad weather?
A: We want to be outside, but if that isn’t possible, we will move indoors should the event allow for it. If we have to move indoors tonight, we will let you know by 3pm by member email and text plus FB.
Q: How can I waste my time at Summer Fun
Night?
A: Don’t come. Or, come, but do the same thing you always do. Sit with the same people. Only talk about the Tigers or the weather or politics.
Q: How can I make the most of SFN?
A: Seeing the usuals is good, but what about people you don’t know? Summer Fun Night is the original Fellowship Sunday. Here are some more ideas:
Introduce yourself to someone you’ve never met.
Invite someone to sit with you who is different in age than you by 25 years -- since one of our goals for SFN is intergenerational time.
Bring a sign and walk around with it that says, “I like to meet new people.”
Invite your neighbor or your kid’s little league coach or friend from the gym.
Ask someone at SFN about a spiritual truth from their own Bible reading or a small group time or church on Sunday.
Praying for no rain and looking to make the most of SFN!
