Over the last six weeks, Cornerstone has been transitioning from one third-party payment system to another (BluePay to Pushpay). The most common question I have been asked is, “What is the cheapest way to give to Cornerstone?” So, let me give you a breakdown of your giving options and the cost for each.

1.      Cash or check in the offering box. It is almost impossible to identify exactly what the cost per transaction is for this process, but it is very low – probably about 20¢ per transaction. A $250 gift would cost Cornerstone 20¢.

2.      Cornerstone Connection giving via credit card, debit card, or ACH transaction. Each of these has slightly different rates.

a.      Credit Card – 3% plus 30¢ per transaction (a $250 gift would cost CBC $7.80)

b.      Debit Card – 2% plus 30¢ per transaction (a $250 gift would cost CBC $5.30)

c.      ACH – 0.5%, there is no transaction fee (a $250 gift would cost CBC $1.25)

Pushpay allows online givers to pay 2.2% towards the giving fees, instead of the church being charged. It is your choice whether you pay this fee or not.

3.      Bill pay system through your bank. Many banks offer a bill pay system, and some offer it for free. If you use your bank’s bill pay system to mail us a check, the cost to the church is minimal. A $250 gift would cost CBC 20¢.

Besides the cost of giving, another factor many people consider is the convenience and/or accountability of an automatic payment option. Both options 2 & 3 can be set up so your contribution to the church is made automatically.

We are grateful for your giving, and the Finance Team is not worried about which method you choose. There are pros and cons to all three types, so choose whatever works best for you. If you have further questions and would like to talk it over, give me a call or find me in the hallways on a Sunday!
