Cornerstone Baptist Church was formed in 1983 with the merging of the Beulah Baptist and Gratiot Avenue Baptist Churches.
Our senior pastor, Bob Johnson II, began in 1989. Because of the growth of the church, the church relocated seven years later from one location in Roseville to the present one on 12 Mile Road.
In 2002, the church began to build the current building, and it was completed two years later.
"I believe that our greatest need is to know Christ. I also believe that Christ is made known all through the Bible. Therefore, I absolutely love to preach about the glories of Christ and the Gospel which God has set on display in the Scriptures and point people to find their complete satisfaction in Him."
Born in Canton, Ohio in 1960, Bob is a life-long Buckeyes fan, for which he deservedly endures immeasurable abuse. He is married to the love of his life, Cathi (a Detroit girl), and they have three children, Bobby (married to Taylor), Rebecca (married to Stephen Magee), and Arianna.
Bob has been serving as the Senior Pastor of Cornerstone since 1989. He has a Masters of Divinity degree from the Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary (1997).
Jerry has an M.A. in Bible & a M.Div. from Bob Jones University. He has planted churches in Indianapolis and Muncie, Indiana (1984-1995) and was an associate Pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church from 1995-2009. He has been a member of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors since 1993. Jerry just returned from 12 years in Ukraine. He served as a professor in the Pastoral Leadership program at Kyiv Theological Seminary.
Jerry is married to Kellie and has 3 children and, at last count, 8 grandchildren.
Zeola was born and raised in Detroit and has been serving in various ministry positions since 1996. She currently serves as the Women’s Precept Bible study leader at Cornerstone.
Through the Holy Spirit, she holds to the truth that all she needs is in Christ alone. Her passion is for women to know and live out the fullness of what Christ accomplished for each of them upon the cross and to bring that same message to those around them.
She spent over 24 years with the federal government before retiring as a criminal investigator in 2012. She earned her Bachelor and Associate degrees from Detroit College of Business (Davenport University), has one daughter (Andrena), son-in-law (Joseph) and four grandchildren (Caleb, Joanna, Ethan and Ezra.) She relaxes by reading and traveling – she is always up for a good road trip.
Scott surrendered to Christ as his only hope of salvation at the age of 20. He has been married to Susie since 1996 and they have four children: Caleb, Noah, Benjamin, and Toby. They have been at Cornerstone since 2017.
Scott has a Bachelors in Business Studies and an MDiv from Liberty University. Before coming to Cornerstone, Scott served in lay ministry for 15 years and as an associate pastor for 5+ years.
Scott’s passion is to see young adults living independently by faith in Jesus Christ, both in and out of the church.
I Thessalonians 2:8 - Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.
